Molotov Cocktail Attack Erupts During Protests in Albania
Thousands of demonstrators gathered outside the Prime Ministry following a call from the main opposition Democratic Party (PD), accusing the government of corruption. Protesters demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and threw Molotov cocktails, fireworks, smoke bombs, and other objects at the building.
Police responded with tear gas and water cannons, and clashes between security forces and protesters also took place near the parliament building. Several people were injured during the hours-long unrest, mainly from tear gas and related incidents.
Protesters also called for the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, who had been suspended on corruption allegations on November 19 but was later reinstated.
Authorities deployed hundreds of police officers and closed several roads in Tirana to maintain order. Anti-government demonstrations have continued in Albania in recent months, with opposition parties vowing to persist in their protests.
